The World Recreational Fishing Conference is held on a triennial basis. The previous locations of the event were: Dublin – Ireland (1996), Vancouver – Canada (1999), Darwin – Australia (2002), Trondheim – Norway (2005), IGFA Fort Lauderdale – USA (2008) and Humboldt University of Berlin – Germany (2011). Brazil was indicated to be the host location in 2014 by a decision of the International Advisory Board members during the 6th WRFC, after they analysed the requests presented in that occasion by Australia, Brazil, Canada and New Zealand.
The 7th WRFC is going to take place in the Convention Center of State University of Campinas, Sao Paulo State, Brazil from the 1st (Sunday) to the 4th (Thursday) of September, 2014. Two Brazilian universities – State University of Campinas and Federal University of Uberlandia – will oversee and monitor the scientific activities to be carried out during the meeting (lectures, oral communications, round tables, symposia and poster session) as well as the proceeding actions.
The 7th WRCF organizers have asked for support of the Ministry of Fishing and Aquaculture and Brazilian Fishing Council – Federal Government of Brazil, Ministry of Tourism – Embratur, State Government of Sao Paulo, City Administration of Campinas and various Brazilian associations directly related to recreational fishing practices. More than 60 organizations (public and private) have expressed their support for the promotion of event in Brazil.
There is no doubt that the realization of this great event in Brazil will serve as a lever for productive dialogues between the countries of the northern and southern hemispheres and more specifically for the development of recreational fisheries (refinement of practices, production of scientific research , discussion of policies, etc.) in the emerging countries and in third world as a whole.
